    Birds & Blooms

    Nov 14, 2009

IMG_1365 Man I’m bad at naming quilts. I had an urge to make a squares in squares quilt last week with some of my fun girl fabrics. It went together fast, but reminded me of how much I hate sewing sashings, even when its only a small quilt. IMG_1431 The backing is from Joann’s, the binding is more flea market fancy. It measures 34"x 44" and is in the shop. IMG_1377

Very pretty! I have a few of those fabrics and I love how everything came together! I've also made a quilt out of that owl print... I made a large applique owl to mimic the print and then used it for wide borders... yummy!

It's gorgeous! And the name is lovely actually :) Sashings really irritate me too... I try to get it over and done with quickly so I can move on to the actual quilting.

I hate sashing, too! I wish it wasn't such a pain, because I love how it looks. Your squares look great!

If I am going to name a quilt I just call it by the fabric/design or person I am giving it to or a combination of all of the above. :D See? I am REALLY bad at naming quilts! This is really lovely.

O.k., how you do it is beyond me! Ever since I got pregnant, and now with baby, quilting has certainly taken a back seat! You're amazing- you turn those babies out so fast! :) This quilt is simply beautiful. I went to see it in the shop and obviously, someone else thought so also since it sold today already! ;)

I don't know how you do it either! I'm up to block 70ish of a 270ish block quilt (following your double hourglass cheat!) and it's taken me weeks.

I love that you picked out the ickle birdies for this one, and the fabric is lovely and cheerful.

You're so inspirational (and make me feel so lazy), I might actually finish my own quilt one of these days :)

hey, I think this could be done using the raw edge applique method that amanda jean from crazy mom quilts blog shows. just concentric squares. no real sashing. my joanns has that owl fabric too and i think i will go get it today. great quilt!!!

That owl fabric on the back is too cute. I LOVE everything you make.

Your blog has been such an inspiration to me. My husband has been in Iraq but should be home NEXT WEEKEND! All summer until now I have come to your blog to give me ideas to stay busy. My time sure passed fast...in a way. I have done a few camera straps and the red and white quilt. Thank you for sharing all you ideas and for helping me get through one of the toughest times of my life!

As for the above post where you mentioned nap time.... my 3 year old can't take them anymore and it's driving me nuts! Oh he'll fall asleep, but then he doesn't go to bed at night. He'll lay in bed until 10 or so just hanging out. Enjoy naps while you can!

What a perfect quilt! I love it! I'm making square in squares right now too and I REALLY hate sashing because a) it's a king size quilt and b) I don't own a machine. :(
