Whoa that's a long post title! I'm so happy to finish this one up just in time for Spring! We've had a doozy of a winter here in Seattle. So. Much. Rain.
This quilt is a free tutorial you can find here from a couple of months ago (click here).
Oh boy this quilting design is definitely not my thing. Actually it wasn't that hard...but it's the BIG loops that are hard. Small ones I can make look pretty good...big ones are a challenge because you have to move the quilt so much more.
I'm only sharing these photos to make you feel better about your own quilting LOL.
Luckily my girls don't care if the loops are good...and *most* of the big mistakes look better now that it's washed.
I used a leftover flannel flat sheet from a set I bought this winter. Flat sheets end up in a wad at the bottom of the beds each night...so I gave up on them! I used 505 basting spray to help hold it in place and no pins...and it worked really well at holding the flannel and I had no creases or folds in the back.
She grabbed it right as I snapped the picture...she's my best "helper"!
I didn't get a great full shot of the quilt finished, but you can find one on the tutorial here. I did a scrappy binding with my leftover blue strips from the top...I love scrappy bindings!

It is beautiful. I know your daughter will enjoy it. I have a sit down long arm but the process is the same as with your domestic. It takes a lot of practice to maneuver all that fabric whether it is large loops or small. Sometimes I think I did better on my domestic machine! I think your quilting is perfect.

Looks good! and I think your quilting is great! I did a baby quilt with those loops last month. They are challenging, mine is sub par, AND I used a double gauze backing....soooo it is lumpy, no crease or folds, just lumpy...but I'm going with it, and hope the recipients don't notice... :)

Thanks for sharing the quilting photos in solidarity =) My 12 year old daughter is also "against" flat sheets. For years I tried to talk her into them, but she insists they are not comfortable. She just uses blankets. Kids are weird ;)

Such a pretty quilt, and I love that you shared your loop-d-loops! I really fear machine quilting, and have only a hand full of finished quilts because of it. Your not perfect loops makes me realize that I need to just go for it and not be such a perfectionist. Otherwise, I'll never get any finished!! Love your little helper pic too!! so fun!! Lovely, nice light spring colors, love all the aqua. Actually, nearly finished with this quilt at home. Using different reds and prints, with a few apple green blocks thrown in. Thank you for the pattern, will use it again since when so fast. Maybe I will try these loops for quilting.

It's a very cheerful quilt! I have added this one to my scrap quilt queue. And I have those sheets! I got them on a great sale at Target. They are for our guest bed in the winter, since that room faces north, and is always cool. I should have grabbed a second set for a quilt backing like you did! Great idea!

First of all, the quilt is adorable! I have stacks of jelly rolls so now I know what I will do with at least one of them😉.. Secondly, obviously the top sheet thing is a universal kid thing...my boys NEVER wanted a top sheet, but I was okay with it because it makes making the bed a whole lot easier!

I bought mine from Fat Quarter Shop and you get a good discount if you get 15 yards or more (which is a bolt)! I love it! I buy the 97 color its a creamy white.

Allison how stinky is the 505 spray? I've always pin basted because I just don't like the idea of a spray adhesive in my quilts. Do you wash the quilt before you use it to remove any residue? Thanks!

It actually doesn't have too bad of a smell! At least compared to other basting sprays, and it doesn't leave the bad sticky residue all over my floors like the other ones do. I've been pleasantly surprised by it! I still leave the windows open and everything but its not too bad. If it's a quilt to be used I do wash it.

Ha - I bought the exact same sheet set for the exact same reason. My 12yo won't use flat sheets, so he gets the fitted and I get a quilt back!
