    Finished Pink Houses

    Sep 1, 2009

IMG_0798 This quilt went together SO fast.  I did a medium meandering pattern (aka stippling)  and my Bernina was on its BEST behavior.  So in other words no “choice” words were used in the quilting of this quilt. :)  The backing is from the Blossoms line by Urban Chicks for Moda, its discontinued but I still see it here or there in quilt shops.  IMG_0804    I prewashed and dried the batting that I used in this quilt and on my last wonky quilt.  I soaked the batting in the tub and dried it in the dryer, so I’m surprised how much these two quilts still crinkled up after washing again.  It was just an experiment to see how much of a difference there would be after pre-shrinking the batting, but obviously there’s not much, so I probably won’t do that again since its a pain. IMG_0818 This quilt is in the shop.  Now I’m off to Target to buy school supplies just for fun and pound a  Costco hot dog.  Seriously….how good are those hot dogs?  I won’t tell you how many I’ve had in the past 2 weeks, probably because I’ve lost count.

I could not remember who did the rail fence that caught my eye. A simple pattern with a big punch. I love the way yours turned out. Check out the one I am working on. I want to try it again with prints like you did.

Just beautiful!! Love that backing fabric. I tried pre-washing my batting too and gave up on it since it made almost no difference. Those Costco hot dogs and their frozen yogurt make me go back a lot. It's quite embarrassing but who cares... they're so good!

This has turned out so beautifully - you're an inspiration! How many quilts have you machine-quilted yourself now(rather than had done on a long-arm)? I'm just wondering how much practice makes perfect...?

I am making the same quilt but in the Kimono line in cream. It will be a lap quilt for a friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer. What exactly is the name of the pattern? Its not rail fence right?

The quilt is gorgeous! I like that you shared the experiment with the pre-shrinking, I've wondered if that would make a difference.

Isn't it interesting how we can judge a project's success by how much trouble our machine gives us during that time? I use that scale myself on a regular basis. :)
