Remember these? Now they are a fun car/picnic quilt. This quilt is so soft, the fabrics are the softest I’ve ever felt….. I try to forget its because they are used. 
I like to think these sheets sat on a sweet little old lady’s guest bed, or better yet in her linen closet and were never even used. But with my luck they probably came from some dingy hotel like the one I stayed at in Niagara Falls three days ago. Seriously….you think I would have learned, you get what you pay for. A $40 dollar hotel, is a $40 dollar hotel, especially when its in Canadian dollars. (i took my own sheets.) 
I did simple wavy line quilting along the seams. My husband saw the wavy lines and asked if I moved the quilt back and forth really fast to make the lines wavy (like free motion). I told him yes and he thought I was awesome. 
The back is the color of grass stains, because there will definitely be grass stains to come. Now this baby is in the washer….again. Just in case I got the dingy hotel sheets.

Well done! I'm sure these sheets were nicely folded in some grandma's linen closet that had sprigs of jasmine tucked in between to keep them fresh. Only used for "company." She's probably glad somebody's using them. That's what I tell myself about my vintage finds. Kudos on the quilting, too!

I have one quilt shop I think you should visit on your journey...although I know it will be a tad out of your way, the drive up to it is beautiful! And should you choose to stay over night there is a great little outdoor theatre to enjoy also.
Anyway it is my sister in law's shop, it is cute and fun and the ladies that work there are charming...It is in Garden Valley Id, and is Stitch n Snips....hope you can fit it into your schedule and I would give just about anything to visit the Gathering Place...that is a too die for shop if you ask me! LOVE it...we used to live in Boise, so we would drive over or on our way to somewhere else, my DH would let me stop...
If you like Hobby Lobby, check out the craft store in town at Rexburg...Porters I think, but maybe it is Roberts...can't remember

This is so cool! I used that wavy stitch a lot...especially on baby quilts. Stitching in the ditch is something I don't enjoy. Wash that puppy a couple more times just in case!

The sheet quilt is awsome. My grandmother used to make those and they were always my favorite to sleep under. There's nothing like the feel of soft, worn sheets...no matter where they come from. But a little Tide and a couple runs through the washer certainly helps!

Wow - you make me feel so old. I received the white sheets with little pink and blue flowers for our wedding - Yes - it was 30 years ago - does that made it vintage? The pattern was called Christine from JC Penneys. Funny how you remember certain things isn't it.

Oh, it's beautiful! My husband think it's really gross that I cut up the vintage sheets and make quilts out of them, too. :) oh, well... mine take a ride in the washer quite a few times, too!

I buy lots of stuff at thrift stores, and when it comes in the house I put it straight into the washer. I usually wash it twice. You never know where stuff has been! I've never had anything that didn't come clean and smell sweet after washing, but if I ever did, I wouldn't hesitate to pitch it. Yuk.

I too love the feel of old linens but abhor the thougts of others- unknown others -havign slept on them- I bought myself some color fast bleach and did a vinegar rinse as well. Now Im OK :)

The green flowered print and the lavendar and blue flowered print look strangely familiar to me! I think my sister and I had those same sheets while growing up. We're in our mid-to-late forties, so I guess our things are now "vintage!" Ha ha!

I am discovering more and more how I like the feeling of vintage sheets on the back of my quilts. I have a work in progress backed with a vintage sheet that feels so soooffftt!
I recently got a package of blocks cut from sheets from Whimsie Dots (on Etsy) and I will be making something nice from them soon.
I don't want cooties either, so my sheets go in the hot wash as soon as I buy them from the thrift store.

Maybe I'm too young to know, but it seems that most cheap hotel sheets are just plain white. I would feel confident in knowing your vintage sheets are by now totally clean anyway. :)

don't get too stuck on the idea of hotel sheets. Hotels prefer white sheets as to patterned 'cause they're easy to bleach.
