    Bats Quilt Pattern

    Aug 14, 2019

Bats Quilt Pattern, Cluck Cluck Sew

A couple of months ago I posted on Instagram that my 9 year old son loves bats, and asked me to make him a bat quilt after seeing the blocks for my table runners.

At the time I didn't want to make the bat quilt...but 200+ people told me to suck it up and make the bat quilt, and one person said that it was weird to make a bat quilt in June.

So I made the bat quilt...

...and I loved making the bat quilt...

...and more importantly, he really loves the bat quilt.

Really though, this was the most fun I've had making a quilt in awhile because I knew he was excited about it.

Also it was easy to cut out, the blocks are big (15" finished), and there are only 12 blocks so it's a breeze to sew together.  It's a nice throw size at 54" x 69".

Kaitlyn quilted this for me, I wanted the quilting to look like windy skies, and this design worked perfect.

    Fabrics used:

Blacks:  Juniper Black Dot, Circle Dot in Black, Large Hashtag, Blossom in Black (sold out but this, or this would be good), Costume Maker's Ball Webs, Moon Harvest Black Hearts

    Background:  Blossom black on White

    Binding:  Black ¼" Stripes

It would also be awesome with some Halloween-ish Kona cottons:

Bats is in my shop here as a PDF, or here as a paper pattern.  It's on sale through the week.

I also put my other "fall-ish" patterns on sale too, Pumpkins, Mini Pumpkins, and the pdf version of Modern Holiday Runners (I'm out of stock of the paper version).

Also here's a sneak peek of a new product I have in the shop now...it makes sewing these bats together 1000x faster (slight exaggeration)!

I'll post more about it next week.  Also there's a sneak peek of how linty my machine is....ick.

Can you believe fall is right around the corner?!  I need at least another 2 months of summer!

It went by too fast this time!!

Ha! When I bought the patterns for the table runners and you talked about a bat quilt, I thought... NO WAY! But now that I'm seeing it, I'm thinking what a fun quilt! Thanks, Allison.

Dang! The patter is @25 years too late for me! My oldest son LOVED bats, we read about them, saw a special showing at a local museum about bats. Maybe I should make him a table runner anyway..

The paper version only has the background fabric amount for 6 bat blocks. So, how much fabric do I need to make all twelve?

        Hi Sharon!
I'm not sure what you mean, are you referring to the material requirements for the Bats Quilt Pattern?  It uses 3 1/2 yards of Background fabric, and that is enough to make all of the blocks, plus the border, for the entire Bats quilt if you follow the cutting directions on Page 1, Step 2 - Cutting the background fabric.  If you cut the background fabric as it says in those directions, you have enough to make all of the blocks and borders from your 3 1/2 yards of fabric.
If you have a question about cutting or the requirements, let me know and I'll do my best to help figure it out!  Thank you!  -Allison

I just bought the table runner patterns (the one that has all six patterns) specifically for the bats. I was thinking about making a quilt instead. Is the table runner pattern adaptable (easily) to a quilt?

You could make a quilt from it, but the blocks are very small. I have an actual quilt pattern for the Bats, and the bat blocks are much larger! If you'd rather have that one you can email me and I can refund you the difference and send you the Bat pattern. Thanks!

      Hello,
I am having trouble with the bat body. I cut the 3 black strips 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" Now these three are used for the wings and the body. Is that correct? The wings come out fine but the body is to long after the ears and tail are put on. What am I doing wrong!
      P.S. love the pattern.
