    The Jack-o'-lanterns quilt

    Sep 18, 2024

We're well into my favorite month of the year and I can't believe Halloween is right around the corner! I'm not into "scary" Halloween....but I'm all about "cute" Halloween everything. So when designing this quilt, I was going for jack-o'-lanterns with happy faces (this is also the only design I can carve into a real pumpkin).

My stash was lacking in oranges, so I bought a stack of oranges and chose a handful from it. Mostly basics, with one punch of purple just for fun. I'll link to some of the fabrics I used, and the background in the bottom of this post.

These blocks are large enough that they show off fabrics well, so if you wanted to use a fun Halloween print it won't look choppy once sewn into a block. Also the pieces are large enough you'll actually like sewing this quilt!

As always, Diagonal Seam Tape will be your BEST friend when making this quilt. Saves so so much time!

The blocks are big (12 ½" x 15") and actually go together quick. The faces for both size blocks are the same, so you can chain piece everything at once if your a die hard chain piece-r like me.

I couldn't bear to take Jane's little creation off my design wall for the photos....she was entertaining herself while I was sewing. She's pretty good with fabric scissors!

Kait long arm quilted this with crosshatch straight line quilting. I really need to do more quilting like this!

The backing is a print from Joann fabrics that I bought in a pinch and the binding is older from my stash.

My family had very mixed feelings about the 1 purple pumpkin I added. Jane likes it because purple...and everyone else thought I was ruining it. I love it! It adds a fun punch of something different and draws the eye. Everyone likes it now that it's finished...even if they won't admit to it.

The Jack-o'-lanterns pattern includes 3 sizes and can be found here as a PDF, or here as a Paper pattern.

Here are some of the fabrics I used, and some I bought but didn't end up using. I also linked the background, black, brown I used. If the links don't work then it's sold out there.

Background: Confetti Cottons in Ash Brown: Bella Solid in Earth Black: Bella Solid in Black Oranges: Pumpkins & Potions Orange Pumpkin Vines, Grunge Basics Russet Orange, Curio Orange Flicker, Stitching Housewives Stripes, Blossom Pumpkin, Swiss Dots Orange, Blossom Orange, Witching Hour Dark Orange Starry, Add It Up Rust, Speckled Metallic Burnt Orange, Bella solids in Orange, Clementine, Rust. The purple is sold out but is called Beggar's Night Purple Skulls by Riley Blake.

I finally had to deactivate comments on some posts because I get SO SO much spam now. So if you have any questions feel free to email me! cluckclucksew@gmail.com
