    A Christmas Jelly Weave Quilt

    Dec 24, 2021

Jelly Weave pattern, jelly roll friendly

In the nick of time I finished up this quilt today!  It was my slow going December project, and today I sewed on the binding just in time to enjoy it for Christmas.

This is my Jelly Weave pattern, and to make it 2 colors, you just divide the strips needed in two colors, and use each color in each block.  I put more details and photos of how to make this pattern 2 colors in this post of my black and grey version.

I cut the fabric strips from my red and green stash.  The only one I would have left out is that really lime-bright green fabric...but I picked out the colors at night and it blended much better in the dark!   I also didn't realize until the whole quilt was sewn, that I had used different colors of background white fabrics.  Whoops!

I took barely any photos of this quilt in construction like I usually do.  The downside of sewing late at night when the kids go to bed, is that I can't snap photos (or at least good ones!).

I did super simple straight stitch quilting ¼" from the seams inside the blocks in both directions.  The backing is an aqua snowman flannel...the same one I used in the tree quilt from my last post.

This was a fun festive sew, and despite December being a crazy month and flying by in a blink, I enjoyed having a project at my machine to work on here and there.  Plus I used up a ton of my red and green fabrics...and scraps of background whites that I now know don't match.  :)

From my family to yours...have a Merry Christmas!!  -Allison

Super cute!! The lime green looks fine. Whenever I accidentally mix whites I just tell myself that it added texture to the quilt, lol.

      Merry Christmas!

It turned out great. No worries on the mixing whites, especially if it is just for your family. Merry Christmas!

I am finishing a Kaffe Fassett version of this quilt. It's turning out great. One of my 4H quilters wants to do this same pattern but with a black background. Have you or do you know if anyone that has done this? I think it would help both of us "see" what will happen.

Yes I've seen that done! I've seen photos of it on instagram, if you message me there @cluckclucksew or you can email me I can try to find a photo to send you. It's beautiful with a black background, you just have to have enough contrast in the print fabrics.

Thanks Allison for all the free patterns. My kids got quillows thanks to you this year. Love the tape, haven’t drawn a line for a hst in over four years. Your patterns are so nice; easy to read and I always to make more than once. Have made pumpkin quilt four times for four sisters. Happy holidays and best wishes for an amazing 2022.

Oh how fun for them! We've had a very rainy spring and winter...hoping it gets warmer and sunnier sooner than later here in Poulsbo!

I like the lime green. It has a “Grinch” vibe so it is Christmas-y.
      :)
You’ve given me a good idea about how I want to sew this pattern!
