Christmas Tree & Mini Christmas Tree

    Dec 7, 2023

Whenever I'm overwhelmed with life and stressed out by all that I need to get done....you can count on me starting a totally unnecessary quilting project. In this case it was these Christmas Tree quilts that I started (in June!) while were getting ready to move and our house was mostly packed up.

I made the larger Christmas Tree quilt first, and then couldn't help but make the Mini Christmas Tree quilt with some of the scraps.

I pulled from my stash, mostly random green pieces that aren't quite a scrap but aren't big enough to use in a pattern. This is a GREAT pattern for using up green and red scraps! It can also be made with pre-cut 2 ½" strips, or fat quarters.

This large version of Christmas tree measures 68" x 72".

It's made using traditional log cabin style blocks, and pretty quick to put together. Kait quilted both of these quilts for me, the background is Moda Bella Solid 200 Off White I buy by the bolt here....it's the only white I use in all of my quilts.

I wasn't initially going to make a mini version, but it makes such a perfect wall hanging size and is a fun way to use up green scraps. I tried to put these both into one pattern...but with such different material and cutting instructions the pattern was too many pages and was way to expensive to print. So I split them into two patterns so I could afford to print them and not charge an arm and a leg. If you don't mind figuring out quilt math yourself it's made almost the same way as the larger version, the pieces are just almost all half sized!

The Mini Christmas Tree quilt measures 34" x 36" and is a perfect quick sew. I love being able to lay out an entire quilt on my sewing table instead of the floor.

This one is quilted with modern loops. Greens are so hard for me to photograph... I swear the color looks different in every single photo.

These were hands down my favorite quilts I've made of 2023. The process of figuring out how to make them and then write the pattern so it made sense was a good challenge. Maybe because they were on my quilting bucket list for so long and I loved seeing them come to life!

Christmas Tree can be found here as a PDF, or here as a Paper pattern. The Mini can be found here as a PDF or here as a Paper pattern.

    Have a great weekend! -Allison

Wow! This is so cute. I love getting all my Christmas cross stitch pictures out every Christmas and handmade stockings but I have yet to make a Christmas quilt. Maybe next year.

I always have to make my Christmas quilts way early because it's way too busy during the fall to make one. They are fun to pull out each year!
