    Fall Palette Pumpkin Patches Quilt

    Sep 16, 2021

    Pumpkin Patches Quilt Pattern

Halloween quilts aren't for everyone, so I also made a Pumpkin Patches quilt  in a fall color palette.  I used a lot of the leftover fabrics from my Fall Leaves quilt, plus a few more blues and earth tones.

It's tricky to find fall fabrics that aren't too novelty looking....so I went with small scale florals and some basics in the right colors.

Super random tip you probably already do...if your feed dog plate has a little edge like my Juki does, and it flips your seams as you sew and they get sewn the wrong way, place a little piece of tape (or the leftover Diagonal Seam Tape you just used to piece the blocks!) and cover the edge to make it nice and flat as you sew.

This sews together so quickly!  I sent it to Knot and Thread Design, she chose a pretty fan design that compliments it perfectly.

I only had this green 108" wide backing fabric left in my stash...and even though it doesn't match perfectly, I'm not one to piece a backing when I don't have to!

I love that I can keep this quilt out through Thanksgiving...especially since my house always look bare bones for a month after I take down all of my Halloween decor and quilts.

Pumpkin Patches can be found here as  a PDF, or here as a Paper pattern.

I sent my last Kindergartener off last week to all day school (they have to wear uniform colors).  It was so sad to leave her at school and come home to an empty house!  She's loved it, besides being really worn out each day, and it's amazing how quickly the day flies by and my time gets filled.   It's so strange to not have kids home during the day for the first time in 14 years!

Love this in this fabric palette! Your idea with a small piece of Washi Tape is again - ingenious - and I can't believe I hadn't thought of this myself :)! Thank you for this simple and wonderful solution. I'm always sliding my scissor underneath to straighten out my seams - this will be such a time saver.
Leaving your last one in school - and coming home to an empty house - I can totally relate, though it has been years for me, since that time. I remember going to a little cafe and ordering a slice of pie and coffee and feeling 'lost' - as I had no little 'tag alongs' with me. You quickly get used to it though :)!

Oh I'm already used to it LOL! She was home sick yesterday, probably from all the new germs being around other kids...and it was a looong day. It is strange that I don't have any kids tagging along on all my errands, but it's also nice that the house stays semi-clean for 5 hours!

I love the look of that quilt! I have long wanted to make a fall pumpkin quilt, but they always seemed too Halloween to me. The denim blue and some of the other colors give it that cozy fall feeling. I am going to remember this for after my move. No sewing for me right now.

Good luck with your move! I never feel like sewing when moving...I have to be all unpacked and settled and that takes time. I'm glad you like the quilt, it's a good fall quilt without being too "halloween"!

I just bought my fat quarter bundle for the Fall Leaves quilt and I am hoping there is enough left over to do the Pumpkin Patches quilt. I am not a big Halloween person so I am loving the leaves and pumpkins! I must really like your quilts because I just started piecing the Picnic quilt with baby fabric for my new granddaughter.
      Thanks for your designs!

How fun! There is quite a bit of leftover with the Fall Leaves pattern, you might need a few fat quarters to cut up including the scraps from Fall Leaves, but you can get close! Congrats on a new granddaughter!

Love the Fall colored Pumpkin Patch quilt. I already bought the pattern and as soon as my son gets married (this weekend!) I will have time to start this one. Can't wait! Thanks for sharing your designs!

I think you did a wonderful job of pulling fabrics and colours for this quilt. I wish I had your expertise. My older daughter is Amelia Jane...we debated going with Jane, but stuck with Amelia only because we had a one syllable surname. Those names have been in my family for many generations. Treasure your time with them (which I know you do) and also treasure the time without so you can take care of you and your creativity.

I had 19 years from first baby born until the last one went to school. It is a big change and time for Mum to look at her life and set some goals if she wants to. I missed my last one but oh the joy of a quiet house!
