No Point Stars - A Free Printable Pattern in 5 sizes

No Point Stars, a Free Printable Pattern in 5 sizes

    Click below for Pattern:

    No Point Stars Quilt Pattern

This is my very favorite stars quilt pattern ever....and of course it's because there are NO POINTS of the stars to match up and stress over!  Thus the name "No Point Stars"...in case you were confused...naming quilts is not my talent!

I decided to revamp my July Stars Tutorial with a FREE printable full pattern...because I love this quilt so much and I get questions about sizing and fabric requirements almost daily!    I've made it in reds and blues, and now red and green, but really this quilt is amazing in a variety of colors or even scraps.

If you've never made a star quilt before now is your chance!

Thank you so much for sharing your pattern. This quilt is beautiful! Can you tell us why you need 3 yards for the backing of the baby quilt? And, what do you do with the other half? CK

Hi Cynthia, You can get away with less but you'll have to piece the backing a bit differently that you normally would. The quilt is just barely too long to use a non-pieced backing (unless you get a minky backing or something wider than normal quilting cotton). Normally in a quilt pattern you get enough for the width of the quilt plus about 8", then times that by two. So you do have a lot of extra length after making the backing. You can also get away with 1 3/4 yards full length, then sewing a strip to the bottom or top to get some extra width...but for pattern purposes I stick with simple math and round up. :)

My daughter brought me a LOT of Crown Royal bags and asked me to make a king-sized quilt so I started searching for a pattern that I felt comfortable with.
I've made a few quilts that were mostly random sized blocks but I didn't think that'd work for this one.
I stumbled across your website and I'm currently working on the No Point Stars pattern.
So far, I’ve spent more time cutting fabric than sewing but I've gotten 13 blocks done!!
I've never made one bigger than twin-size so this is going to be a challenge for me.
Thank you so much for allowing me to use your pattern!!

Thank you for creating this pattern! I love a good star pattern, and one that doesn't require points is even better!! I do have a quick question.... the pattern states 1/4 yard of each fabric (so total of 1/2 yrd, if I go yardage route instead of FQ) for all sizes?! Is that correct?! I'm not very good at quilt math but that surely doesn't seem right for a crib size all the way up to a king?? HELP! Where have I gone wrong?!

Hi Jade, The material requirements for the Throw size for example...say 15 FQ OR 1/4 yards for Color 1 and 15 FQ or 1/4 yards for Color 2. So if you are using yardage, you'd need 15 different 1/4 yards of each color. You can use 1/2 yards too and just cut according to the cutting directions for 1/4 yards...just cut double. You just need a total of 15 assorted 1/4 yards for each color. Hope that makes more sense?

Hi Chris, No I haven't figured out a 36" star, but I bet there are some instructions for it on the internet somewhere! Try to Google "giant star block tutorial" and hopefully you'll find one!

Hi, just tried to download this one, it doesn't seem to be working, either by clicking photo or underlined title. All the other download tutorial links worked fine for me, just not this one.

I can’t find a place to download the pattern. Can you send it to my email?

Currently planning to make this lovely throw at our sewing retreat next year but wanted to try a block. Any top tips for getting a 4” square for the star. I ended up at 10.5 and wonky! I need to be more precise!

Hi Elaine, Try pressing the seams open, and you can try sewing just a smidge toward the corner of the drawn diagonal line when you are sewing the little star points on. That will give you a bit more breathing room. Mostly just practice!
