    Bright Bats

    Sep 16, 2020

    Bat Quilt

Last year I made my son a bat quilt, and I've been planning a colorful version ever since.

    Bat Quilt

I used the Bats pattern I wrote last year, and a variety of bright basic fabrics.

The background bones fabric (isn't that cute?!) is from the line Scaredy Cat by Riley Blake.  It's getting tricky to find now, but I bet brick and mortar shops might have it.

    Bat Quilt

This lime bat was my favorite of the bunch...and you can see I placed it smack dab in the middle of the quilt.

These blocks go together SO fast with Diagonal Seam Tape, and you can checkout a super quick video of me making one of these Bat blocks with it here.

    Bat Quilt

I quilted this one myself in a swirly pattern.  I dragged my feet to quilt it for a few weeks and then once I finally made myself get started, it only took me a couple of hours or so.

I love the quilting part....but I will procrastinate making a backing and basting the quilt foreeeeeever.

    Bat Quilt

I backed it with the blue plaid from my Backyard Blooms fabric, and bound it with a pink stripe.

Now it's draped over Sophie's bed and she's happy as a clam with her Halloween quilt in non-Halloween colors.

Here's the one I made last year for Ryan:

His is definitely more Halloween-ish....but hers is so fun with all the color!   Bat quilt pattern can be found here.

    Have a great day!  -Allison

I bought it from rugs.com a couple of years ago...they might still have something similar but they don't have this one in stock anymore.

Thanks so much. Btw, I bought your book a couple years ago and have made a few quilts from it. Keep it in my nightstand just to look at!

Bats are my favorite animal and was so excited to see this! Within a couple of days I had the whole thing assembled (naptimes sure were busy!) and have started hand quilting the top. Once I saw your colorful version I immediately ordered the adorable bone fabric too! With the pandemic I started quilting as a way to bond with my mother and your pattern was where I started so thank you!

the colors certainly did put a different spin on this quilt! So pleased that Sophie likes it. I can't believe how much your kids have grown, seems like you were just making camera straps! :o)

This is adorable! Can you please tell me the brand name or collection name of the chartreuse green fabric? Thank you.

I think the one you are talking about is by Cotton and Steel, I purchased it from fabricbubb.com
